What is the function of bare copper wire in network cable?

Apr 14, 2023 Leave a message

This particular type of network cable is known as twisted pair and is a shielded variety with a shielded crystal head. The copper wire connects the iron shell that shields the crystal head, making it suitable for use in most environments. However, it is important to note that interference can affect signal transmission, the degree of which is dependent on the severity of the interference source. Twisted pair cables can come in two types- shielded twisted pair (STP) and unshielded twisted pair (UTP).

STP has a metal separator film in the twisted pair, which reduces electromagnetic interference during data transmission, making it more stable than UTP. The price of STP's twisted pair is relatively higher, typically costing a few yuan per meter, while UTP is much cheaper at around 1 yuan per meter, but its stability is poor as it lacks the metal film.

The benefits of twisted pair cables include a small diameter, making it space-saving and lightweight. It is also easy to install and bend. Twisted pair cables minimize or eliminate crosstalk, ensuring efficient data transmission. Flame retardant properties increase safety, while its independence and flexibility make it an ideal choice for structured cabling.
